Fifteen previously untreated myeloma patients received b-interferon (b-lFN) plus melphalan (M) and prednisolone (P) for induction. Overall response rate was 79% which includes complete remission 20% and partial remission 33%. Side effects of b-IFN were not dose-limiting. Median survival was 13 months. Both the non responders and patients with minimal response had symptomatic improvement. We concluded that combining b-IFN with melphalan (M) and prednisolone (P) can produce improved response rates over standard MP therapy.
