Thalassemias are hereditary anemias, which occur as a result of mutations in the genes coding for synthesis of globin chains. Chronic myelogeous leukemia (CML) has a characteristic cytogenetic abnormality, the Philadelphia chromosome (Ph1). An adult case of b-thalassemia inter-media later developing Philadelphia (Ph1) positive chronic myelogenous leukemia (CML) is presented.
