Twenty-eight previously untreated cases of prostate adenocarcinoma with stage C and D disease have been treated with orchiectomy and cyproterone acetate between 1990-1994. The patients were evaluated with intravenous urography, bone X-rays, serum levels of prostatic acid phosphatase and prostate specific antigen, bone scintigraphy and digital rectal examination performed before and after the treatment. The patients were followed within a range of 9-26 months. Fifteen cases showed partial response, 7 cases had stable disease and 6 cases had progressive disease. Four of the progressive cases died in the follow-up period. Bilateral orchiectomy combined with cyproterone acetate may be suitable treatment modality with few side effects in the management of advanced prostate cancer.
